The ability to integrate and utilise Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) technologies has become an essential component in today’s modern design and construction practices. The advancement of new software and hardware has greatly improved the ease of access to VDC technologies and processes.
This 15 credit Scan to BIM certificate, is just one of a number of Special Purpose Awards (SPA’s) being offered leading to the award of a Higher Diploma in Virtual Design & Construction (VDC). It aims to educate students in the process of digitally capturing a physical space, site or physical object using drones, laser scanning and photogrammetry and using the resultant images to create virtual models or 3D printed replicas.The suite of modules have been designed to allow students a practical, hands-on approach to complete a ‘Scan to BIM’ process. Using captured 3D scan data, a 3D model will be generated for use in varied applications.
This course may be of interested to those wishing to expand their digital capabilities in multi-disciplinary areas of construction, architectural visualisation or asset design for animation and gaming.

Applications will be considered from level 8 honours graduates in construction or associated disciplines. Graduates who hold Level 7 qualifications in related disciplines and with relevant industrial experience will be considered for places on a case-by-case basis. Candidates that do not meet the above criteria may be eligible for admission to the program through the RPL (Recognized Prior Learning) route. (considered on an individual basis in accordance with the Institute’s policy on RPL).
Delivered part time in a blended format, lectures will be online 1 /2 evenings per week, with students attending the college for a number of one day, weekend workshops each semester (15 weeks)
Knowledge of Revit is required prior to the commencement of the Scan to BIM module in the second semester
